Everytime I plan to stay in a Germany for an extended time, the first thing I want to do is get to know some interesting people and of course improve my German.
The best way is through a Tandem.
What is a Tandem?
An exchange of language between people and also a friendly meeting at a coffee shop or any other place to hold a conversation.
How do you set one up?
Go to the local University and put up flyers. One such example “Native American Speaker seeks Tandem with a German Native Speaker. I am offering a nice conversation and the possibility to practice your English in exchange for helping me with my German. Please contact me at…”
Print or write out these flyers and place them everywhere imaginable.
Personally, I have met many nice people this way. It is also a great way to improve your German. The best way to improve a language is by using it, even if you tend to make a lot of mistakes.
