Through the website Mitfahr-Gelegenheit, it is possible to share a ride with someone traveling in Germany. In fact, my friend Scott who showed up at my door this morning, paid 25 Euros to travel from Dresden to Stuttgart, which normally would have cost 110 Euros with the Deutsche Bahn (the German Train System). By contacting this share a ride system, he was able to find a ride and and save 85 Euros in the process.
Advantages
1. Save the Environment through carpooling
2. The travel price is usually at least half the price as the train
3. You will get to your destination much faster
Worries?
There could be possible dangers to taking this form of transportation. Though the service there is no record of driving history. You have to use your best judgement to decide whether you trust this person to drive you.
I like to check the Id of the person before I ride with them. This way I verify that they are the person they say that they are and you can see proof of a valid drivers liscense.
Another option is to meet with them somewhere before taking the ride to decide if it is worth taking this ride or if its simply better to pass.
