The Train System in Germany

By Nick | Jul 25, 2007

Worried about your connecting train ride? Maybe the train is going slow or has some delays. Don’t worry. The train system in Germany is really good. Even when you have 5 minutes between connecting trains and it seems like you won’t be able to make it don’t worry. I travel from Tuebingen to Boeblingen a lot. In order to get to Boeblingen I have to change trains and have 5 minutes to do it. A lot of times my train is late. However, the next train will usually wait for you.

Most of the time your delay will be cause by the fact that the train conductor has to wait for a connecting train to arrive. Usually when you book a train ticket to another destination in Germany, they will try to give you the shortest travel times possible. I have even had less than 5 minutes to change trains. However, I haven’t missed a train. Sometimes you have to really run. It is not uncommon to see Germans running in the train station. This can be necessary. Missing a train connection can mean an hour wait.

Taking enough trains in Germany like I have, it is easy to realize that the train system in Germany is actually good, except for the occasionally strikes, the trains almost always run on time.
