This is a comparison of a few main demographic of Germany in comparison to the USA. Facts provided by the CIA’s World Fact Book.

Life expectancy at birth:
Germany
male: 75.96 years
female: 82.11 years (2007 est.)
USA
male: 75.15 years
female: 80.97 years (2007 est.)

*Germans live slightly longer than those in the USA. Is this a benefit of a social health care system? Also remember that organic foods are much more popular in Germany.

Population Size:
Germany
82,400,996 (July 2007 est.)
USA
301,139,947 (July 2007 est.)

*Germany all together is a much smaller country. Already 82 million has put a strain on the country. The USA in comparison still has lots of space to spare.

GDP per Capita:
Germany
$31,900 (2006 est.)
USA
$44,000 (2006 est.)

*The citizens of the USA average more money than those in Germany. However, consider that the Germans pay more taxes, higher gas prices, and don’t have to worry about health insurance. Is $12,000 lower earnings per year worth the social benefits?

Population Growth Rate:
Germany
-0.033%
USA
0.894%

*The United States still tends to be a popular place for immigration. These immigrants tend to have more than 2 children, adding to the slight population growth. In comparison, Germans are marrying at an older age, and tend to have less children, if any at all.
