Have you ever seen those people playing music in the market place in Germany, or how about those living statues? How about those people who hold out their hands expecting you to give them a few coins?

How Many Homeless People Exist in Germany?

Believe it or not, there are actually around 860,000 homeless peope in Germany.

According to Shareint.org:

“The numbers of homeless in Germany are not registered in any governmental statistics; the only estimates were made by independent institutions offering social services. One of these institutions is the Bundesarbeitgemeinschaft Wohnungslosenhilfe (BAG), a labor organization which aids the homeless.”

There are shelters and Germany and places for these people to get help. Many times I see them drinking outside of Supermarkets or sitting along side a building begging for money. Rather than give them money I would rather give them food so at least I know they won’t use the money for the wrong things.

Beating up the Homeless, a Sport in Germany?
Beating and killing homeless people may have developed into a “Trendsport” in Germany.

Tageszeitung reported on January 17, 2007 that a 45 year old homeless man was attacked by two young men in Hannover (reportedly the second such attack in the new year alone in Hannover!) The man sustained injuries to the face and ribs.

In December 2006, a homeless man was beaten down in the Prenzlauer Berg section of Berlin by a 23 year old who filmed the incident.

In 2003, eight German youth, aged 12 to 19, beat a homeless man to death in a forest near Neulussheim, Germany.”

Though I have never witnessed any of these cases, some fear that there are many more cases then currently known occuring.

  1. You should update the statistics…dont know the number of Obdachlosen, but saying that the amount is
900 000 people with 9 year old information is really un professional.
