The Rhine in Flames – Bonn, Germany

By Nick | Aug 5, 2007

The Rhine in Flames is a worthwhile event to see in Bonn. With the amount of the fireworks being shot here, it makes it look as though the Rhine River really is on fire. The fireworks here are great. There is also a lot of other things to do here. They have a carnival with rides and games. There are also a lot of food stands where you can get everything from sausages to French fries.

Of course there is also a great selection of beer to choose from. I would recommend the regions Koelsch beer. This beer is made in nearby Koeln and is also very tasty. When I saw the Rhine in Flames I set alongside the bank of the Rhine. Here we were able to grill steaks and sit among the thousands of other people who came to this event.

It is recommended to come very early if you want to get a good place to sit. Most of all the best spots along the river bank will become quickly full. At the riverside you are allowed to grill so be sure to bring plenty of vegetables and steaks. One problem I had with the Rhine in Flames was the lack of toilet facilities. Many people had to venture into the woods in order to find a private place to use the toilet. However, there should be public facilities near the rides and games.Every year the Rhine in Flames occurs in early May.

The following website has more information on actual dates as well as the times of other Rhine in Flames events held in other parts of the Rhine: http://www.rhein.feuerwerk-info.de/index.html
