Sleeping Safe In Europe

By Nick | Aug 4, 2007

When backpacking in Europe it is not necessary to always book everything in advance, unless comming during a really busy season such as July. Even in July (the busy season) there is always a few rooms available.

Ways to Find a Cheap Room
The best places to go to find a place to sleep for the night are
1.Tourist Information
2. The Internet Cafe

Two websites offer a great place to find a cheap hostel. 1.http://www.hostelworld.com 2.http://www.hostels.com
I then call up each hostel until I find a hostel that has a room free.

Can’t Find a Room?
Sometimes it may happen that there is no free rooms avaiable within your budget. In this case there are two places to go that are always that safest places in any city.

1. The train station: In any train station there are always people moving around. Train stations also have lockers to lock up your things. These can be purchased for 2 euros per 24 hours. Any place with people moving around is safer than without anyone. Here there are also security guards. They may give you a little trouble at first, but as soon as they realize that you are a tourist they will leave you alone.

2. The Airport: The airport is probably the safest place to go. Most major airports are also open 24 hours per day. If you find a place to sleep here, the security will probably think that you are just waiting for a flight. It won’t be possible to get into any Terminals, but there is usually a large reception area in the front of the airport.
