In Germany, people are required to pay taxes to the state based on their religious affiliation. This money is then distributed to the churches. Some churches have started to feel their money dwindle as less and less people have claimed affiliation, thus reducing the budget of the church, making it hard to maintain.

Churches always under Construction?
Since my visits in Germany, it seems like every church is always going through some phase of construction. Consider that these churches in Germany are hundreds of years old and the Germans go through leaps and bounds to keep them in great condition. World War II didn’t help as many churches were critically damaged and needed massive work. With this budget problem, it may be leave work on churches unfinished until cash can flow once again.

Types of Churches in Germany?
If you are of a practicing faith, you will probably find your church in Germany. Many of the churches are catholic, those being the oldest, yet you will find many protestant churches since Luther made his declaration against the church in Germany. If you are in Scientology be careful about who you let that be known to in Germany. Scientology is not widely accepted in Germany. Actors have had problems in Germany because of their beliefs in Scientology.

Germany was in an uproar about Tom Cruise staring in a movie about the attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler, since they are so against Scientology. See the clip below:
