Germany and the United States, a Comparison

By Nick | Oct 26, 2007

The biggest debate at least between and the Germans is, which is better the United States or Germany. I’ve tried to compare both sides of the ocean, but what I have realize is that there is no reason to do a direct comparison, better to analyze of what is good in each country.

German and the US – Just two different places
As I have sat down and though about it, I’ve come to the conclusion that neither country is better than the other, they are just rather two different countries. They bother offer something a bit different to those living there. Consider drinking in public. Allowed in the US? No, definitely not. In Germany? Sure, everyone can drink outside, whether in be in a beer garden or just while walking or in the park. Germany tends to have smaller backyards, while the US has larger, is one better than the other? Or maybe like my opinion, it is just different.

Germany -Just Plain Expensive
I thought this while living there. Germany is just expensive. Consider jeans for 120 dollars seems to be the norm, while in the US jeans are between 20 to 40 dollars. Property also costs much more for a rural area than in Germany. There is a little more than meets the eye to this price picture. Consider that Germans tend to buy higher quality products. (Those $40 US Jeans are not quite as nice as the $120 German jeans.) The same goes with the housing. German homes tend to be constructed much better than those in the US. Germans build theirs from brick.

Rebuild Vs New Build
Whats better, restoration or destruction. In Germany, everything old is preserved which in many ways adds to the beauty of the country. Cities try there best to blend the new and the old, and preserve all cultural history. The trend is often in the USA, if its old tear it down and build a new one. This leaves cities in the US ever changing. I have revisited cities after only have a year and have been overwhelmed with the new changed. When visiting Germany, everything sort of stays the same, and probably the case has been this way for a long time (excluding times of war.)

In any case, I wouldn’t say that Germany and the United States should have a comparison, rather appreciated for their unique differences and similarities.
