Shopping in Germany can be a rather fun, yet expensive journey. If you happen to come from the unfortunate United States where your dollar isn’t worth anything compared to the Euro, you might feel the pinch. For everyone else, shopping won’t be too bad.
An Outdoor experience
While indoor malls do exist, its outdoor shopping that Germany has usually. In most town centers you’ll find a mix of nice clothes stores with Mom and Pop shops. As it comes to fashion, Germany offers everything from cheap to expensive. Consider that even Hugo Boss is a German brand as well as Puma and Adidas.
Some Usual German Stores
Esprit - My favorite clothes store in Germany. Though its found almost the world over, almost every city has this store. There fashion is great. Try their EDC version of Esprit if you are worried about the price (its a bit cheaper). Visit Esprit.com to check out their collection.
S Oliver - Just like Esprit, offers great fashion. I even bought my suit from S Oliver. I’ve been able to find quite a few good looking clothes here.
The New Yorker - Just cheap fashion. Generally the clothes could be better, but if you know how to shop you could find something good in here. Personally I find the stuff rather tacky.
Kaufhof - The original German shopping store with just about everything imaginable. They have a food section usually, and just about every brand of clothes. This includes both S Oliver and Esprit. They even have luggage, glasses, electronics… I would call it a one stop shopping experience.
Media Markt - The best place to get electronics in Germany. There area few other electronic stores like Saturn, but I’ve found Media Marktto be the best. They have a nice video game section where you can just waste your day playing games :).
