As a student, you will be able to work 20 hours a week. As for the job, it depends how well your German is at this point. Id suggest the following:
1. The Neckarmueller: its a local pub, but you’ll need German
2. If you are American, apply at aaffes.com for a job at the military base, you’ll have to work about 40 minutes by train from Tuebingen, but you’ll get the student train pass which means you won’t have to pay much. Most jobs are either working in the PX Store (I worked their as a cashier), or probably in the grocery store. Best part is you get a miltary id which means you get to buy American food, (they’ve got some good stuff like Digiornos Pizza) and you get to eat at the only Taco Bell in Baden Wurttemburg.
3. Try the Arbeitsamt located on Konrad Adenauer strasse. It’s behind the train station away from the inner city.
4. Make definitely sure that you ask for working permission when you get your student visa.
5. If you could imagine teaching, visit http://www.dai-tuebingen.de/en/index.php?sec=kont and write them that you are coming and looking to teach. I have to warn you,
this place is completely unorganized and you have to be persistant. I’ve had the lady not keep appointments, just warning you…
The biggest factor is going to be how good your German is, but look around I’ve even found jobs with University, but since I wasn’t a student I couldn’t take any jobs. Now I’m just a full time blog writer so I don’t even technically work in Germany.
