Germany might need to get some new power plants in order to help keep the cost of energy low.  According to Economics Minister Michael Glos “We urgently need new plants because if there is no extension of network and generation capacity, we run the risk that we will have to use old and inefficient plants for much longer than necessary to guarantee safe supply,” he was quoted as saying. “This doesn’t foster competition nor does it lead to lower electricity prices.”

To get further electric competition? He was quoted saying, “A European solution would be better suited to foster competition.”

As I’ve lived in Germany we always had a choice between eco stroem and normal stroem, like energy produced from environmental methods or having normal energy methods.  The environmental option though was always more expensive… and the lights flickered a lot
