Germany’s Attitude Towards Sex

By admin | Apr 21, 2008

As you read the German newspaper, you are often to find sex more open, leading one to believe that the attitude towards sex is Germany is much more open than most countries.

In Munich’s Central Park, office workers spend their summer lunch breaks sunbathing nude, which of course shocks many tourists not used to this attitude of sex.  I’ve often seen people swimming in rivers nude.

Is this actually a better attitude to have towards sex?
Consider a country like the United States that seems to have a problem with open sex, but which also leads to a high number of rapes, child porn, prostitution…  While in Germany with sex being less of an issue, you hear less about crimes of this nature.

Who’s more traditionalistic anyway?
I’ve often claimed that Germany is too traditional with it’s Sunday shop closing hours and it’s slow ability to adapt to changes, but think about this sex issue.  Germany embraces sex openly, while the U.S. acts conservative.  I’d have to say in this case, the U.S. acts much more conservative, especially regarding sex in the media and in the open.
