How To Send Letters and Mail in Germany

So you want to send a letter, mail, package in Germany and you don’t know where to start.  Actually the mail system in Germany works quite easy and it doesn’t take much to get started.

1. Go to the Post Bank

2. There will be an automated machine there that will be in most european languages including English.

3. If you run into any problems the reception is usually quite helpful.

Unfortunately the price to mail letters in Germany is quite expensive, in fact it is often cheaper to send a letter to someone in Germany from the US then from within Germany itself (does that make any sense at all?)

Using C/O care of…
If your name is not on the mailbox of the place where you live, make sure to have anyone mailing you anything, to write c/o + the name of the person who’s name is on the mailbox.  Often you won’t receive letters simply because your name isn’t written on the mailbox.
