I had this debate with another friend in Germany about what the definition of friend in Germany really means.
When you have a friend in Germany you
1) keep your distance, dont get too imtimate, etc
2) a friend is just someone you know
3) close friends are very hard to make
Which leads us to the conclusion
thats the reason why most of them are unhappy and feel lonely
The Happiest Germans Are:
Those that have embraced american culture, and i hate to be elitist, but those are the ones who are happy. Ok, so we can’t say that this is 100% true, there are always exceptions to the rule.

Hello,
My name is Frank, i am german and i found your homepage accidentally. Congratulations for that website. I have to tell you it was very interesting for me to read about your german experiences. My girlfriend is from PA in the USA and i met her in 2006 when she was in germany to study german. Since she went back to the US i visited her 4 times and she came back to visit me 2 times. We talk like 1 hour everyday, I really love the USA and since i was there i started to compare the two countries and i could look on websites like yours for hours.
you are wright the sense of humor is very different.
Unfortunately you are wright with a lot of the things you wrote. People are unfriendly, negative and they make their lifes so stressful with all these rules and laws. I really loved how friendly, optimistic and nice people were in America. I always have a cultural shock when i come back from america. I feel langry then and experience my own country in a way i don’t want to. I don’t know why it is like that in Germany and i hope it will change because it is a very beautiful country with a high standard of living. People should stop to be so grumpy and enjoy their lifes.
In October my girlfriend will come to germany to do a 2-years master program at the university of Konstanz. I am very exited about it. But i told you a lot about things you maybe don’t want to know, so enough.
Again it was nice to read your stories. I didn’t find your name. Are you in Germany permanent? All the best for you and maybe you want to put me on your update list if you have new experiences in Germany.
Frank
PS: My girlfriend told me very often that I am not funny when i wanted to make a joke. Isn’t that sad?
Can I ask something ? My boyfriend is from Germany and Im from the Philippines. My boyfriend has a filipina friend who’s married to the friend of my bf. It irritates me when she visits him at home and stay there for 4hours and I have to wait for him online coz he said that it is discourteous to leave the visitor where in fact we already had an appointment to met online at that time but suddenly she came by the house. Lenny knows me already and she knows that I keep calling to my bf many times on the fone but she didnt give way. I think she can stay there for 2 hours but 4 hours was too much and I was already angry. Do you think I act normally or Im just feeling jealous ?
