Minimum Wage in Germany

By admin | Jun 8, 2008

As of yet there really isn’t a minimum wage in Germany.  Critics often fear that implimenting a minimum wage in Germany will bring unemployment back into the double digits. “Frank-Walter Steinmeier, a leading Social Democrat, said Germany should consider a minimum wage between €7.20, or $10.58, and €7.50 an hour.”

Some have considered a wage of 4.50 euros per hour to be adequate as long as the exclude trainees.

The biggest concern is of course what level to set it at.  A minimum wage of 7.50 euros an hour would probably end with employers hiring less people, giving Germany once again bad unemployment rates.

It’s be almost 6 months since this the source of this post was written (via iht.com), so it’ll be interesting see what the trend is this upcoming December.
