The Unemployment Rate in Germany

By admin | Jun 3, 2008

Back In January, Germany hit an unemployment rate of 8%, something Germany considered a good rate, but is the unemployment rate in Germany even good?

As I like to compare, just look at the unemployment rate trends in the US

What they call 8%, those in the US would call it a bad recession.

The original article: Jan. 31 (Bloomberg)Germany’s unemployment rate fell to the lowest level in 15 years in January. The jobless rate, adjusted for seasonal swings, dropped to 8.1%, the Federal Labor Agency in Nuremberg said today.

Of course our unemployment rate is not good. But it is not that good in America as well. My girlfriend is american and her mother works for the union. She told me that the unemployment statistics are wrong. There is a much higher unemployment rate because all unemployed people who don’t get unemployment money anymore (I think the average is 26 weeks) are not listed anymore. Today I heard the prognosis for the next year. the american economy won’t grow anymore. The USA is heading in a recession. Hopefully this won’t come true.

Dear Frank, you do have a point. I think the main factor in any recession is what job do you do? Personally I’ve never made more money than I have now, but if you happen to be in the wrong industry, I can see how you will have problems on the job market. Second hand business have never made more money, while retailers suffer..
