After getting different offers for internships in Germany, I’ve come to a few conclusions about the typical internship characteristics in Germany.
Typical internship pay: Usually pay is 400 euros. Why 400 euros? Companies don’t pay tax on pay that is only 400 euros as well as the employee. They wouldn’t want to pay you more and have to pay tax.
Typical working hours: 40 hours per week is the usual working requirement by most internship, expect it to be like a normal job.e
Internship then job: Though it’s not a guarantee you’ll get a job, most companies require you to do an internship then get a job.
Keep in mind that usual you can’t escape doing an internship before working in Germany. Unless you are super qualified, their is an abbundance of people looking for jobs in Germany and simply not enough jobs for them all, thus we have this “Praktikum P” problem where companies simply employ full teams of internship employees and as I’d put it use them for cheap labor. It’s essentially legal cheap labor all because of the lack of jobs in Germany.
