A German Beer Stein is usually a special jug with a closed or open lid. Bier Steins have turned it more of a tourist novelty and are highly decorated, but often no used for drinking. You’d be better off buying a one liter Mass (huge drinking glass) if you plan to drink from it.
The lid of the Beer Stein was developed so you could be engaged in activities such as swinging your arms around without spilling any beer. Beer Steins are perfect if you want to get drunk, but not waste that precious beer… Image via waxinggabbous
