A little known tradition in Germany is the secret crush tradition. Though I’ve never seen this tradition being performed in Germany, I do know that around May it’s the celebration of Maibaum, or May Tree.
During Maibaum young men will have the opportunity to show a young girl their affection. What happens is they will cut down a small tree (maibaum) and decorate it with a heart and write the name of their crush on it. Then they prop the tree against the love interest and the girl should get the picture.
About a month later, they hopefully will have gotten a date, or a case of beer, or both.
