In Germany when you go shopping you have to pay attention to when the stores are open. If you didn’t know better you’d think the opening hours for Germany would be really early, but actually things have changed allowing Germany stores to stay open later and later.
Shopping for Food
Stores like Rewe and Tengelman stay open usually until 10. Though these stores can be slightly pricier they are your best bet for late shopping.
Stores like Aldi and PennyMarkt usually close about 8 pm. This seems a bit early, but lets say for the employee’s sake it’s better.
Clothing Stores
Usually clothing stores seem to make their final close around 8pm. Even in big cities, 8pm seems to be a usual closing time, which in comparison to the USA is relatively the same consider those shopping malls in the USA close at 9pm.
24 Hour Shopping?
TankStelle (gas stations) are good places to find food and beverages all night long.

I live in a smaller city (Lörrach) where pretty everything closes by 6:30 (grocery stores at 7:30) – everything is also closed on Sundays as well! Beyond Tankstelles I’ve found the Turkish Döner Kepab restaurants to be open late reliably even on the weekends.
