Shopping in German Markets in Germany

By admin | Nov 10, 2008

A few things I noticed about German Markets such as any grocery market like Aldis, is a few typical behaviors of the people.

First off, when checking out at the cashier after shopping, be prepared to move as fast or faster than cashier in getting your groceries in your cart.  As the cashier scans your items, they don’t bag them for you, you do this yourself.  But, you won’t have time to bag.  Rather you have to quickly take your groceries and throw them into your cart.

Bags? Bring your own or pay up to 9 cents per plastic bag.  No you don’t get any free bags.

New aisle opens up?  If a new checkout aisle opens up, it is a run for you money.  Germans don’t care if you had one item to checkout with, if a new aisle opens up, it is fastest takes all.

Shopping on Saturday?  Remember most German shops are closed on Sunday so be prepared to beat the heat and get groceries like every other German is doing as well.
