Immigration Total to Germany Is Lowering

By admin | Jul 23, 2009

Immigration to Germany has been falling as more people have been reported to leave Germany than arrive there.  There are many factors why the total immigration to Germany is lowering, such as the weakened economy.

The usual number of 682,000 was constant, but the number that did change was  the number of emigrants which rose by 100,000 to 738,000.  Altogether 56,000 more Germans and foreigners left than arrived.

People are still coming to Germany, but for whatever reason, more are saying goodbye to Germany.

I can tell you why…the Germans. After several years in this Germany all I want is out. My wife is German and we had originally agreed that we’d live for a few years in each of our native lands – Germany and the USA. We decided to start out life together here in Deutschland. We were both able to find jobs quickly enough and I wanted to learn the language as soon as possible. Well 8 years later, I’ve learned the language and the customs and have lived here long enough to discover that that feeling of “why are these people so cold” never goes away. Personally, the progression of time has only made me feel worse about being here, as I see more and more of the same. I can only speak for myself, but I’m fed up with the snub German aire of knowing most everything better than anyone else, letting you know about it, and all the while looking down at most other nationalities. Ever hear the phrase, “he’s not concieted, he’s just convinced”? Well it fits here perfectly.

I hesitate to publish this, as I don’t want to prematurely poison anyone else’s experience, but I will offer a word of warning. I came here with the naíve notion that as long as I was friendly enough and tried to adopt the customs, that this would be a second home. Remember – this is Germany you’re dealing with and Germans and a whole different breed. I look forward to leaving with my wife (who also loves life in the USA) and son as soon as possible. We’ll be 3 more to join the stream of people leaving – because of the Germans.
