How To Get An Apartment in Germany

By admin | Nov 17, 2009

When you move to Germany, the first thing you need is an apartment since hostels can get expensive depending which city in Germany you move to. Apartments in Germany are not hard to rent unlike other parts of the world.

Getting an Apartment With Other Germans
I used a site called WGgesucht.com to find my apartments when I was in Germany. I’ve paid as little as 250 euros per month for a shared apartment. This is also an easy way to make new friends, and adjust to the new surroundings before going out and renting a place to yourself. Living this way does not always mean having to live with just students, even older people rent out a space in their flat for people of all ages.

Getting an Apartment Solo in Germany
There are plenty of websites that will let you rent an apartment yourself. Keep in mind that renting this way may mean a contract of 6 months or longer and not always mean getting a furnished place. However, this is the best way to get your privacy if you are not keen on living with other people.

I’ve lived in all kinds of German apartments, ranging from a flat full of foreigners, living with German students, or getting a semi private room in a floor filled with 12 people. Pretty I’ve always used WgGesucht.com to find my flat, besides for one I studied abroad and one was automatically given to me.
