Living in East Germany, A Day In East German Life

By admin | Nov 6, 2009

TheLocal.de provided a great account of living life in East Germany. The article expresse that some in East Germany still feel a longing for some of the items that were available before the GDR collapsed. Such is the example of the East German town Eisenhüttenstadt that was once called Stalinstadt, also created as a socialist city for housing nearby steel.

In fact pre-fab concrete apartment blocks still exist, giving you a look inside to life living in what East Germany was like before reuinification. In fact the town decided to preserve it’s appearance rather than change. What you have left is a museum within a town that could be considered a museum itself.

In this town you will even find a reconstructed GDR grocery store that features treats from the “good old East German days.”

To experience this preserved way of living in East Germany, you will want to visit Dokumentationszentrum Alltagskultur der DDR
