The Friendliest Cities in Germany?

By admin | Dec 30, 2009

When asking where to go to in Germany you might want to know the friendliest cities. Germany can be full of both friendly and unfriendly, but before asking which city is the friendliest we need to understand a few basics of the German culture. The norm seems to be that Germans are more direct and blunt than Americans. This might make them seem unfriendly when they are merely stating the open truth, rather than hiding it behind fake smiles and gestures.

When it comes to being friendly to foreigners you’d probably have more luck with bigger cities since the people have had more experience dealing with foreign visitors. Try cities like Cologne, Frankfurt, Munich, Stuttgart, Berlin, etc.

Personally I’ve found those in the North of Germany to be more friendly than those in the south based purely on personal experiences. You could base friendly on other factors like being bike friendly. Berlin was found as the 9th most bike friendly city in the world according to Virgin-Vacations. The most beer friendly city in Germany probably is Munich with it’s countless breweries and beers.
