There are more and more counterfeit euros being found in Germany, as the fake money seems to be getting spread around more and more. The Local reported that the figures for counterfeit money in Germany are getting worse.
“”In the second half of 2009 a total of 447,000 counterfeit euro banknotes were withdrawn from circulation,” the ECB said in a statement. The rise was slower than in the first six months of 2009 however, when the central bank reported a 17 percent jump in the number of seized counterfeit notes.”
Though these counterfeit figures sound bad, consider that in Germany and the rest of Europe, 12.8 billion genuine banknotes are still incirculation making 447,000 fake notes a rather small figure by comparison.
