Germany No Longer Number One Exporter

By admin | Jan 6, 2010

Bloomberg reported that as of last year, Germany is no longer the number one exporter in the world, China is. China overtook Germany last year, exporting more goods for the first time. China’s ability to create goods cheaper than Germany will probably help keep it’s status as the top exporter for years to come. This is a sign of China’s new world dominance.

BusinessWeek wrote that “China shipped products worth $957.7 billion in the first 10 months of 2009, while Germany sold goods worth $917.7 billion to customers abroad.”

These figures come even during a recession in which China lost 20% of exports, but the main difference is that Germany lost a whopping 27% of the amount of exports. Now that everyone seems to be coming out of the recession, the question is, will China remain the number one exporter?
