Facts About Germany’s Population

Germany’s population is characterized by zero or declining growth , with an aging population and smaller cohort of youths.
At the end of 2004, Germany’s population was 82.5 million, essentially unchanged from the prior year.
In the former West Germany, population density is 267 people per square kilometer, compared with 140 people per square kilometer in the former East Germany.
Average population density is about 230 people per square kilometer, but population distribution is very uneven.
The United Nations Population Fund lists Germany as host to the third-highest number of international migrants worldwide , about 5% or 10 million of all 191 million migrants, or about 12% of the population of Germany.
