It looks like Germany is getting more and more diesel cars available like the Toyota Yaris diesel version which recently won an award for most miles per gallon getting up to 70 miles per gallon. Diesel cars have long been offered by Volkswagen in the USA, but diesel version of the Yaris and Mini Cooper for instance are only found in Europe and countries like Germany.
Diesel cars seem to have gotten a bad rep in North America where people think they are inefficient and car makers think no one would buy a diesel car. Another reason is the fact that diesel engines have a difficult time meeting the air pollution regulations put in place by the EPA and the California Air Resources Board.
